Education has always been the prime focus of L&T’s CSR efforts and several educational programmes are being implemented,working closely with government schools covering various aspects including school infrastructure development, setting up smart classes, providing STEM education and running robust teacher training initiatives.
As a huge step towards an inclusive society, we have partnered the Deaf Enabled Foundation (DEF), to develop an Indian Sign Language (ISL) mobile app – DEF-ISL. This App is handy for people with hearing impairments to learn sign language easily. Packed with over 35,000+ easy-to-understand signs and phrases, in-built videos, illustrations, the easy-to-navigate app can be used both by adults and children, who are hearing impaired. The app also enables children to enhance their social interaction, language & communication skills to positively impact their social development.

‘Engineering Futures’ a flagship programme is a new digital education initiative to enable students to enhance their learning skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by stimulating critical thinking through effective teaching of science, powered by technology. In partnership with American India Foundation (AIF), we have driven this initiative presently across 83 government schools in the States of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Haryana covering nearly 18,000 children of the 6th-8th grades.
Our association with Bhumi, benefits over 350 students across North Chennai ‘s slum settlements every year through our Community Learning Centres that focus on after-school skill development programmes. Managed by trained tutors from within the community and designed to address the lack of competence in fundamentals of academic subjects, these programmes help build life skills too.
Acknowledging the importance of a child-centred education approach during their early period we, have supported Bala Mandir in Early childcare and development project through Montessori Education Centre which benefits 200 children. The teachers who are extensively trained in Montessori education and alumni of the Indian Montessori Training Centre, involve the children in groups and individually with age-appropriate learning activities to help them discover their potential.
Our long term association with Vidyasagar provides special education to middle school children which include academics, vocational and life skills and co-curricular activities like art, music, and sports. The programme offers transition curriculum too: therapy requirements of a student – physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech, language & communication. With assistive and adaptive technology, children are taught reading, writing and help to carry out their activities of daily living to ensure full and complete participation at home and school. As Life Skills along with the academics are the best rehabilitation practices, we support Vidyasagar with a Skill Training Unit. Transition curriculum involves various skills that special children require to be more inclusive in society, be more independent. better equipped to avail off opportunities for open employment. Accessible transport facilities are available too for safe mobility of children/persons using wheelchairs.
Our decade long association with Seth Vidyalaya (a coeducational primary school in Madanpur Khader, New Delhi) brings quality education to over 500 children belonging to the lowest strata. Through participative learning, their potential is developed to the fullest, building their confidence to face life’s challenges. The progressive and dynamic methods of teaching inculcate the desirable values, proper attitudes, and habits in the children. With proper schooling, these children are exposed to educational programmes in a comfortable environment which reduces the incidence of dropouts while achieving certain essential levels of learning.
