Education has always been the prime focus of L&T’s CSR efforts and several educational programmes are being implemented,working closely with government schools covering various aspects including school infrastructure development, setting up smart classes, providing STEM education and running robust teacher training initiatives.
The 'Every Child A Scientist' (ECAS)' initiative, executed in association with the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and funded by L&T, gives children an opportunity to understand science and technology to inculcate a scientific temper. The programme has covered around 1,000 economically underprivileged children from sixth to ninth standards studying in select Corporation schools in Chennai following the Tamil Nadu State board syllabus. The students are exposed to themes such as biodiversity conservation, climate change, nutrition and more, through practical video sessions and classroom study. They even learn to dissect a frog, use stethoscopes & microscopes, and check BP through a sphygmomanometer.
Our contribution of Rs. 2.5 crores have enabled the Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School to expand its facilities by building a second floor. This new wing has provided more space for students and enhanced the overall educational environment, creating a stronger foundation for their future.
A result of our enduring partnership of over 6 years with Bhumi, an NGO, is the creation of the Skill-Ed program, an initiative designed to equip final-year students in Chennai, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, with the essential IT and soft skills needed to thrive in today's competitive job market. Launched in August 2024, the program involves 70 hours of intensive training to develop industry-relevant skills and enhance employability. Skill-Ed will be expanded to more locations in Chennai, potentially training hundreds of students in the months to come.
L&T’s long-standing partnership with the American India Foundation has helped empower government school students in Tamil Nadu. Our STEM-based program focuses on 6th to 8th graders, transforming classrooms with digital infrastructure, educational kits, and innovative teaching methods. We emphasize collaborative, project-based learning to enhance scientific knowledge and skills. Teachers receive training and tools for effective lessons. The STEM Innovation & Learning Centre (SILC) is a significant milestone in our 'Engineering Futures' program.
