In todays economy the most important resource is no longer labour, capital or land – it is knowledge : PETER DRUCKER

It is now generally accepted that success in increasingly competitive markets will depend more and more on the quality of knowledge which organisations apply to their key business process.

Knowledge not stored or shared is knowledge lost. Knowledge Management, one of the major initiatives organisations will have to undertake for sustained growth and profitability, comprises a range of practices used by organisations to identify, create, represent and distribute knowledge for reuse, awareness and learning. Knowledge Management programmes are tied to organisational objectives and intended to achieve specific outcomes such as shared business intelligence, empowered work force, improved performance, competitive advantages or higher level s of innovation.

Knowledge may be captured at three stages : before, during or after knowledge-related activities. Individuals undertaking new projects might access information resources to learn best practices and lessons learned from similar projects undertaken previously, access relevant information again during the project implementation to seek advice on issues encountered and access information on after-project actions and review activities.

By unifying core competencies and standardising functions within organisations as also across industries - thereby creating virtual enterprise - skills, resources and cost benefits are shared to deliver value driven products and services to customers.

Knowledge Management offers systems, repositories and corporate process to encourage and formalise the above process.

In line with the above mission, we have embarked on a structured way of knowledge Management process as under:

     Strategic Business Unit Process
     Service, Resource Support & Procurements
     Design Excellence & Standardisation
     Record and Document Management
Drawing Management and customised flow and reports.
     Information Systems
Other initiatives from individual operating groups like
Health, Safety & Environment, Quality, Competency cells,
Construction Skills Training Institute (CSTI) and so on..
     Finance & Accounts
     Audit, Legal Services

Other processes /specialised needs are continuously under development...

Our efforts to cover more areas of our operations will continue. We welcome valuable suggestions and new ideas.

"An immense and ever-increasing wealth of knowledge is scattered about the world today; knowledge that would probably suffice to solve all the mighty difficulties of our age, but it is dispersed and unorganized. We need a sort of mental clearing house for the mind: a depot where knowledge and ideas are received, sorted, summarized, digested, clarified and compared."

H.G. Wells in 'The Brain: Organization of the Modern World',1940
