India’s Largest Blast Furnace ’H’ Blast Furnace of TATA STEEL, Jamshedpur, was successfully commissioned today – 31sy may 2008 - in a record duration of 25 months from date of ground breaking, by L&T-Paul Wurth Consortium. Blast Furnace ‘H’ of 3814 Cum useful volume, with a rated capacity of 2.5 MTPA hot metal is state-of-art in terms of technology, size, capacity, designed campaign life and compactness. This is the first time in India that such a large Blast Furnace has been taken up by a Steel Plant as well as executed on a turnkey basis by any Supplier. |

This project of “H” Blast Furnace was awarded to L&T and Paul Wurth, Italy, who designed, manufactured, supplied, erected and commissioned the furnace with all auxiliary facilities on a turnkey basis. Paul Wurth’s, scope covered basic engineering, supply of proprietary and special equipment as well as technical supervisory services while L&T’s scope spanned detail engineering, supply/manufacture of indigenous mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & automation works including complete site services involving civil, structural and erection works. L&T along with its international consortium partners Paul Wurth Italia is presently executing two more 2.5 million TPA (MTPA) Blast Furnaces on turnkey basis at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Bhushan Steel Plant, Mehramandali (Orissa) which is scheduled for commissioning by 2009 & 2010 respectively. The commissioning of Blast Furnace –H marks L&T’s resolve to be a significant player in the Steel Industry with its international consortium partners in supply & installation of iron making facilities on EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) basis. |
