L&T has been doing pioneering work in rail infrastructure development for more than three decades by bringing in its overall project management capabilities, improving upon construction methods, introducing new technologies and implementing mechanized and efficient execution methods. We are the only private organisation which is qualified to undertake integrated rail construction projects of the Railways encompassing construction of permanent way including roadbed and bridges, manual and mechanized track linking, overhead equipment installation including traction sub-stations, signalling & telecommunication works and associated civil works like station and platform amenities. Our expertise also include Ballastless Track, Rigid overhead Conductor System (ROCS) and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS).

Our customers include Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE), various Zonal Railways, Metros, as well as private railway sidings. The range of services offered include survey, design, engineering, manufacturing and supply of sleepers, material and equipment sourcing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning.

L&T’s unique distinction of involvement in railway projects comprises 700 km of track construction, signalling and telecommunication works in more than 85 stations, 23 traction sub-stations and 7500 km of railway electrification.

Towards fulfilling the demands in rail construction, L&T has established the Competency Development Centre (CDC), a first-of-its-kind training centre for rail construction in the country at Kanchipuram, near Chennai for different activities based on the requirements of an integrated rail construction project.
